When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder, much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else, and when there is nothing, not even a smear of blood to show that a boy has died.
As of August 21, 2013, City of Bones was made into a movie and released in theaters.
Shelved-sequel and reboot
Constantin Film originally planned to make a film franchise based on the entire The Mortal Instruments, which would have let The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones having film sequels basing on City of Ashes and other latter books; however, due to undesirable box-office performance, the company ultimately decided to reboot the series, and not just focusing on The Mortal Instruments, but incorporating other aspects in The Shadowhunter Chronicles. The TV series is titled Shadowhunters.
